Hello Eagles,
As most of you know the snow is melting, days are getting longer and the field is in need of some TLC!!! Come one come all to our annual field clean up day Saturday April 25, 2009 at 8 am. For those of you new to the club this is when we put a little time and energy in to make the field look as nice as possible. If you own power equipment and would like the chance to use it, this is your chance and if you don't, trust me we will keep you busy.
We tried to set the date early enough this year in the hopes that we will get a good turnout, even if it is just an hour or two any time you can give is helpful. This year we also set a rain date of May 9th so keep an eye on the calendar and e mails a few days before April 25th and we will keep things updated. Just an FYI this is also a "MUD" date if you have been down to the field lately you know that the current state of the parking lot and field is less than dry and we want to give ourselves and the club our best, this means if the field is so wet that we will be getting equipment, trucks or people stuck in mud and make an even bigger mess than the date will get pushed back. Like I said please keep an eye on the calendar and your e mails for updates.
We have come up with a list of things to keep people busy and it is as follows.
We still have hopes of clearing the Northern Left side of the field to expand the runway. We will hopefully be getting a tractor similar to last year and we are working on the possibility of a small bulldozer to aid in the removal of some stubborn underbrush that we had issues with in the past. With this equipment we also plan on fixing the parking lot ruts, road, and digging up the gate to add cement to the pivit end and fix broken pieces on the wood and wire side.
Although this sounds fun we don't have enough heavy equipment for everyone. Chainsaws, brush cutters, weed whackers, flail mowers and anything else that can cut small trees are also wanted. We want to take out many of the small trees and underbrush around the field on both sides of the river to give people a little more room for low landings coming in from the north as well as a little more room to play for those flying combat this year.
As always we appriciate the help from everyone that comes and we all know that it is the faithful members that will keep this club running. Our hope is to "try" and provide food again like last year please keep your eyes open for updates and changes and feel free to contact me with questions, comments or concerns.
Your Safety Officer,
Eric Boucher
P.S. If any one is friendly with rental shops that might be willing to donate equipment to our not for profit club for the day please let me know.
