AMA Club #2417

Minutes of November 1, 2000 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 by Joel Chappell.

Treasurer’s Report

We have about $2700 in the treasury, and 103 members.  The Toys for Tots event cost the club very little, less than $100.  Steve is handling club member renewals, he has the cards for 2001 for members who are renewing.

Field Marshall Report

Ed needs to arrange for snowplow service for the parking lot this winter. Ed will post the local emergency numbers that can be reached by any cell phone, for roaming phones where 911 doesn’t work.

Safety Officer

No report this month.

Newsletter

Sorry for the typos in the field naming ballot.  New ballots are printed.  Please send Frank any articles or information you’d like to have put in the newsletter.  Coming soon, we will offer email delivery of the newsletter, and you can choose to not get the paper copy.

New members/Guests

One guest was here, Mike, planning to join soon.

Old Business

Heritage days – there was a very small turnout.  No airplane display or antique cars.

New Business

Joel asked for volunteers to lead the Yankee Swap at the next meeting.  Also looking for an Awards Banquet chairman and Frozen Fingers Fun Fly CD.  Bob Sylvester volunteered for Yankee Swap.  Joel offered to do the awards banquet, tentatively Jan 20th.  Dick Easton volunteered for Frozen Fingers, tentatively January 14th

Field naming – These names were on the ballot, including names added tonight:

Patterson Field
Flying Eagles Field
Merrimack Flying Eagles Field
Stanley Drobysh Field
Ernie Manard Field
Merrimack Eagles Field
Drobysh - Patterson Field
Joe Marrone Field
Dennis MacCallum Field

After the first round of voting, the top two choices were Stanley Drobysh Field and Drobysh - Patterson Field.  The final round selected Drobysh - Patterson as the name to submit to the Merrimack town selectmen.

Gerry suggested we consider reducing the frequency of club meetings and newsletters.  One reason is to save money on the newsletter and meeting place rental fee.  There was also interest in having more program events, such as presentations at meetings or touring people’s workshops, or demos of various construction techniques or more show and tell events.  The consensus was to keep monthly meetings as we have been doing.

Joel mentioned the Charles River club auction coming up on Nov 5th in Natick.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30, with a raffle for a CG machine and a presentation by Gerry on his hand launch glider.
