Marshall Report Ed
set October 8th 8:00 – 10:00 for the field clean up day.
General clean up, fix up the fence, get the field ready for Toys for Tots
event. We may set up the shelter
with the tarp. Ed has two
locks soaking in kerosene to try to clean them up for the gate and container.
Ed fixed the signs at the field. Safety
Officer Mark
V. had no issues to report. Newsletter Rhinebeck
article will be in next month. Frank
soloed this month! New
members/Guests Two
new members joined, and two guests, who have already visited us at the field,
were here at the meeting. Old
Business Joel
reported for Bob Spear that we really need more helpers for next year’s float
fly. Some of the helpers didn’t
get a chance to fly because they were so busy.
One suggestion is to call members ahead of time to ask them to sign up to
help for a particular one or two hours. There
were 5 and a half members from the Southern N.H. club here at the fly-in.
Just a little rain, but it didn’t stop us from flying. Toys
for Tots – Mark reported everything is looking good. Concession stand, congressmen, media, marines, extra toilet,
generator, PA system, and other things will be there. There was discussion about how to set up the PA system, and
exactly which equipment we should use. Mark
got volunteers to collect equipment from the town, and help at the event. New
Business Heritage Days – we have been invited to
participate at the Heritage Days event at the Anheiser Busch plant on Sat. 21st,
10 am to dusk. This is outdoors on
the grassy area. We will not fly,
but will have a table to display planes on. Field naming – Joel discussed the naming issue,
described what has happened and why we are naming the field. The town selectmen suggested we name the field, as part of
having the town officially recognize the site as an AMA flying site.
The benefit is to get the town “in the tree with us”, and on our side
in case of any dispute. The general membership should decide what the name should be,
to submit to the town selectmen. The
town can approve or reject the name. The
town suggested to name the site after a war veteran pilot from Merrimack. Bob Lacroix spoke highly of Dana Patterson, who
provided the field for many years. He
suggested Dana be mentioned at a field naming ceremony.
He also suggested to follow the town’s suggestion to name the field
after Stanley Drobysh, a veteran pilot, to maintain our good relationship with
the town who now provides our field for free. The club members present unanimously agreed to move
forward with naming the field, and to work with the town in the process.
There was disagreement about what the name should be, but agreement that
the club general membership should choose the name. Joel said his goal with this process is to maintain
the fellowship within the club, so the whole club can feel good about this
process. There was some discussion about whether or not to
vote on a name at the November meeting. Some
members felt this was rushing it. The
members present agreed we will vote in November. The first vote will choose the top three names, the second
vote at the same meeting will select the top name, which will be submitted to
the town selectmen. Members can
vote by email or proxy if they can’t attend the meeting. A short list of possible names will be published in the
newsletter. There was a suggestion to reduce the frequency of
club meetings and newsletters. We
will discuss this at the November meeting. The meeting adjourned at 9:30, the longest club meeting in recent memory. |
